SHE LOVES ME – FULL BROADWAY MUSICAL – PBS AND BBC
You might have seen my squee of excitement on The Prepared Performer's Facebook Page Yesterday. I was working on an upcoming post about great musicals for the Holiday Season when I stumbled on a recording of a BBC Movie Musical version of my all time favorite show “She Loves Me.” I can't believe I had never seen this recording! Yesterday I found several videos broken up into sections that covered the whole musical. Today, I found the whole thing all in one nice neat package! Do yourself a favor and check it out here!
I've not had time to watch the whole thing… but so far I think it is so well done. And, at 1 hour and 47 minutes there is an interview with Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (who wrote the music, you might know them from greats like Fiddler on the Roof and Fiorello), and Miss Barbara Cook who was the original Amalia.
PS – This really is the sweetest present of a show. It's based on the same story that You've Got Mail was based on. I played Amalia at Chapman University and earned my Equity Card a few years later doing the show as an ensemble member/tango dancer at Musical Theatre West. AND, The Chance Theater is doing it next winter, so if you are in Southern California, you'll be able to see it there!
