Several musicals include partner dancing in their choreography, so we thought it’d be a good idea to share some basic info with you.
Cha-Cha:
The most popular Latin dance composed of quick steps.
Fox Trot:
A dance that is similar to a waltz, but danced to a 4/4 tempo.
Polka:
Originated as a Bohemian folk dance, in a 2/4 tempo. It is a popular folk dance of many countries.
Swing:
Evolved from the jazz era. There are several different styles that fall under this category including: lindy hop (8 count), west coast swing (8 count) and east coast (6 count).
Rock Step:
A step similar to a “ball change” that is used in many ballroom dance steps
Waltz:
An elegant smooth dance in a 3/4 tempo, with accent on the first beat.
