Facing Fears

Hidden Gem to Household Name

It can be really hard to grow your business when no one knows who you are. I remember when I first started using live video, and getting traction I was so grateful for the results I was getting, but knew there was a bigger field I could be playing in.

I wanted to be on bigger stages, both in person and online. There is one person who helped me to start landing those opportunities. My dear friend and publicity go-to, Selena Soo. She and her team have helped me to step onto in-person and online stages from Traffic and Conversion to Forbes.

Selena is a publicity and marketing strategist for visionary entrepreneurs, experts, and authors who want to reach millions with their message. She’s helped clients and students get featured in places like O, The Oprah Magazine, Forbes, and Inc., and land interviews on popular podcasts and national TV. She herself has been featured in magazines and websites like Forbes, Fast Company, Inc., Business Insider, Entrepreneur, Success, and The Huffington Post. She has has been a guest on podcasts like Entrepreneur On Fire, Smart Passive Income, and Mixergy.

Below is a recap of her steps to help you facing the fear that can come from taking that leap onto those stages to go from Hidden Gem to Household Name.  To hear her entire interview make sure to watch the video above!

Hidden Gem to Household Name with Selena Soo

If someone has got an incredible product or service, and they really feel like by putting their work and what they'reoffering out there, it's gonna help people improve the quality of their lives, it sucks when you're in this best kept secret. To say, “I've got a handful of clients. I have like you know, some customers,” but you know there are thousands, tens of thousands or millions of people, that could benefit from what you have to offer, if they just knew you existed.

That's why Selena loves to help people get publicity.  Think about it this way, if you could help 10,000 people and have those 10,000 inspire just 100 people each. That's 1,000,000 people! People connect to other peoples experiences and stories. Publicity and getting your message out there IS important. Between media,  influencers, and other platforms there are so many ways you can share your message. If you are fearful to jump to the next level, don't be. Take these steps and go from Hidden Gem to Household Name.

Number One- You are your own worst critic.

We can over analyze our performance and think that we are not good enough. But honestly, the things that we're focused on are things that people usually are not paying attention to. Really focus on our message and what you're looking to share with them.

Number two-you can't compare yourself to other people.

You know, if you're getting started on your publicity journey and you're comparing yourself to someone who has 3 years, 10 years or 20 years experience, isn't fair to you. Also, it's important to understand that a lot of people that are further along,  have been getting coaching and help and support to actually be at that level.

Number Three- Do the work!

The only way to get that support is to do the work. You can this vision of where you want to be but to bridge that gap, and make it a reality, you have to actually take some actions of micro-steps and then perfect action, in order to improve and get to where you want to be.

Number Four- Service

Last but not least, it's all about service. We're not getting publicity because we're looking to brag or be like, “Hey, everyone, look at me!” There's actually a particular message and idea, something that we're looking to share with people to improve the quality of their lives. So, instead of asking, “Am I good enough?” Or, “did I screw up?” Ask, “did I show up and really serve people?” If the answer is, “yes” and you continue to serve people with your stories, your ideas, your knowledge, your advice, then you are doing a fantastic job.

It's all about taking action and making an impact! Share your stories, and don't be afraid to take it to the next level, to that bigger stage. Make sure you aren't a hidden Gem that could be a household name!
